About Pocket Guide Golf Thailand

Pocket Guide Dive Thailand 2010This, the 2011-12 edition of Pocket Guide GOLF Thailand, follows the Pocket Guide philosophy: written by experts who are passionate about their subject and widely distributed such that it reaches active, travelling golfers and those interested in taking up the sport, providing them with an informative, quality publication.

The contents of the book start with a series of introduction sections, namely: Introduction to Thailand, Travelling Around and an Overview of Golf in Thailand, plus sections on Golfing Tips and Tricks, The Golfing Lifestyle, Golf for kids, Healthy Golf and Thailand's Trickiest 18 Holes – or card wreckers!

The book then covers the different golfing regions, each with its own introduction and map, plus a list of the region's featured courses. These are followed by a regional directory of local services and travelling logistics. Each course listing and directory has a uniform layout to maintain the high standard and profile that are the hallmarks of a Pocket Guide publication.

Although every effort has been made in putting together this, the 2011-12 Edition of Pocket Guide GOLF Thailand, there is always the possibility of changes to courses or facilities offered after going to print.

Also, if you find that we have graphically misrepresented any details, please send an email telling us what needs attention to: info@golfguidethailand.com. Your input can help us to maintain up to date details and information in future editions, which will contain credits to all readers who have kindly supplied valuable input.

If you have enjoyed, or we trust found this title useful, there are other topic specific guides in the series.

Pocket Guide DIVE Thailand gives an in-depth overview of all the top scuba diving and snorkelling destinations around the country including featured dive site descriptions and dive centre listings, and if you are yet to discover the sport there’s a section on taking the plunge and learning to dive in Thailand.

Pocket Guide FOOD Thailand is packed with signature dish recipes and how to create them from many of the top restaurants around the country.

There’s also sections covering regional flavours, different cooking styles, preparation and presentation techniques, as well as healthy and alternative ingredient suggestions making it an ideal meal planner and food shopping guide where ever you are. After all, everyone has to eat!

Pocket Guides are available on Bangkok Airways and
Nok Air flights and/or in the airline hospitality lounges

Mike Staples
The author teeing off on the 9th at Red Mountain Golf Course on Phuket

About the author - Mike Staples

Mike Staples has lived and worked in Thailand since 1995. He retired from a career in banking in 2004 to “work on his handicap”. Mike now plays off a handicap of 9.

He first played golf in Africa from the age of five with a cut down hickory shafted 5 iron but played very sporadically until taking the game up seriously in Thailand in 1996. He has since played over 100 golf courses all round Thailand as well as many courses in eight other countries on five different continents.

Best described as a golf addict (withdrawal symptoms set in after two days without a game), he plays extensively with three of Thailand’s golf societies in both Bangkok and Hua Hin. His ambition is to play every course in Thailand.

Acknowledgements

Several people need a big thank you for their help in the compilation of this, the 2011-12 edition of Pocket Guide GOLF Thailand. We are, as always, indebted to Mick Wittering whose continuing assistance and support was invaluable for the Hua Hin and Cha Am region. Robin Lloyd and Dave Milne at The Wild Lodge in Khao Yai for his hospitality and knowledgeable advice. Finally, Chawanrat has my enduring admiration for putting up with me.
